Here at Westlake all of our providers strive to prescribe the least amount of controlled substances as possible, but there are cases where controlled substances are needed to help stabilize and manage symptoms. We are proud to Integrate a Program that ensures we are following best practice guidelines for medications that can be highly addictive.

The primary goals of the program are Prevention and providing the appropriate Education to safely take controlled substances.

Program Facts

  • The program is Mandatory if you take a Controlled Substance
  • If you do not enroll, you will be weaned off your controlled medication or you have options to find a new provider outside of Westlake
  • Children 17 and younger only on a stimulant do not need to attend the program unless there is a history of substance abuse
  • All clients who take Benzodiazepines or Hypnotics must attend the program.
  • For clients who use controlled medication minimally must still be seen at least 2x/ year.
  • Even if you see a therapist at Westlake or at a different facility, you will still need to attend a 17min-30min therapy session  focused only on the controlled medication.
  • For Adults who take stimulants and have no history of Substance Abuse, you will generally be seen every 3-4months.
  • Yes, your client can join the program if they are not a client of Westlake.

  • The program is great for the client who can’t make weekly therapy but needs to be monitored while taking a Controlled Medication that treats their Anxiety, ADHD, Insomnia, and Panic Attacks.
  • Your client will be placed with one of our Therapist
  • Receive updates after the appointment on how your client is progressing with the Controlled Medication that you prescribe.
  • Receive recommendations such as needed for weaning, drug screens or a referral to see one of our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners.
